How It Works

  • It really does not have to be as expensive as it sounds! A very simple web directory where admittedly whoever pays the most holds the top slot however it is fast becoming an effective serious way to promote your website from as little as £1 once-off fee.
  • NO MONTHLY FEE! NO REGULAR PAYMENT! JUST OPTIONALLY TOP UP YOUR LINK WHEN YOU WANT!
  • To add your link is a ONCE OFF payment and your link will stay on till at least 31st December 2012
  • All participants earn a share of 50% (less VAT & PayPal Payment processing fees) of all new income each time anyone else is added or topped up on the site.
(Commission due will be paid monthly.)
  • Also 25% (less VAT & PayPal Payment processing fees) of all income will be donated to charities selected by the participants.
(Whenever a participant's total is £10 or more we will make a payment directly to your chosen charity.)

We are often asked how or why anyone would find this site?

  • We have a four metre long promtional banner we take to events and promotions.
  • We will be promoting the website on our website and on other websites.
  • We will be promoting it in emails we send out.
  • We encourage all participants to link to www.theworldsmostexpensivelink.com from their website.
  • The site is self-publicising in that the more people that participate the more people know about it.
  • Every time someone else joins the site they will see your link till at least 31st December 2012.
  • We send out a monthly newsletter by email to promote the site.
  • Commission payments are sent out monthly promoting the site.
  • Charity payments raised are made in the name of www.theworldsmostexpensivelink.com
  • The ICELAB Ltd make 25% (less VAT & PayPal Payment processing fees) of all income - the rest is all invested back in commission payments and charity donations.

We have recently added an entirely new feature to The World's Most Expensive Link which now tracks the number of times each of the links has been clicked on and visited. Take a look for yourself at our Link Tracker

Lots of people have been asking how is the commission calculated?

OK, here goes, I guess the best way to explain how commission is calculated is to use a real example.

Let's say Fred pays £50 to add or top up a link.

  • Fred basks in all the glory of owning the top spot or moving higher up.
  • £1.90 will be paid to PayPal for credit card processing fees.
  • £6.27 will be paid to HM Customs & Excise as VAT.
  • £20.91 (i.e. 50% less PayPal Fees & VAT @ 17.5%) in commission is shared out proportionally* between all the existing site participants (including Fred if he is topping up his link).
  • £10.46 (i.e. 25% less PayPal Fees & VAT @ 17.5%) in charity donations is shared out proportionally* between all the existing site participants (including Fred if he is topping up his link).
  • £10.46 (i.e. 25% less PayPal Fees & VAT @ 17.5%) is our remaining profit and also covers our administration costs of running/marketing the site.

  • * Someone who pays £50 will get 50 more shares of any commission money than someone who pays £1.

I think that's about it - obviously the longer you have been on the site the more commission you are eligible for a stake of.

A number of people have asked us if this one of those "pyramid" multi-level marketing schemes?

To quote the definition: "The new investors pay off the returns for the old investors, which keeps things running smoothly as long as the new investors are coming in." Clearly we can see why it might get perceived as a “pyramid marketing scheme”. We thought long and hard about that when we came up with the idea – and came to the conclusion that this is not a pyramid scheme. The difference with this model is that the person at the top gets a return on their investment but so does the person right at the bottom. Every participant still gets a link to their website and promotes their website. Every link also has the potential to raise money for charity. Every participant also has the potential to earn micro-commission. But that is not the primary reason to participate – it is just a by-product of listing their site. In the case of this site if no new “investors” ever came along the model would still continue to have value to the existing participants – they still have a guaranteed high quality link their site. If new participants do come along that is just a bonus rather than the reason for taking part.

It is all bit of fun and an experiment and many people who participated early have already earned back their investment in commission which we pay out to encourage them to keep shouting about the site but that isn't the only reason to participate.

The World’s Most Expensive Link is easy to own.

It simply always goes to the highest bidder. Why not add your link now for as little as a £1?

If you are outbid at anytime and knocked off the top spot you can top up your link to get higher up or back on top.

Other people who want to support you are also able to top up a link.

For Example, if somebody put on a link and it was topped up by £1 per week, a second link added 1 year later would need to pay £53 to get above the first link.

Links don't devalue over time but will get lower in the list if higher value links are added.

If your links falls from the top spot it will still get long term recognition on Hall of Fame

Your link is guaranteed to stay live until December 31st 2012.
